The Pope-Leighey House is one Frank Lloyd Wright's Usonian houses (houses designed for "the common man"). The house was designed for Loren Pope who moved out after seven years, needing a larger place. Marjorie Leighey was the second owner who donated it to the National Trust for Historic Preservation in 1964 when it was comndemned to make way for Interstate 66 in Falls Church, Virginia. The house was dismantled and rebuilt at the nearest Trust property, Woodlawn Plantation near Mount Vernon, Virginia. See article in the Winter 1996 issue of Echoes, p. 14...

It has been suggested that architect's Maya Lin's inspiration for this memorial may have been the list of names on the World War II memorial at Phillips Exeter prep school in Exeter, NH where she taught one summer; this memorial plaque stands in the school's assembly hall and is simple, stark, and sad. Ross Perot bankrolled the design com- petition for the Vietnam Memorial, and then was reportedly outraged when the Lin's design was chosen.
